What each verification status means
When you scan an IVQA code or enter its reference, the public page shows one of five results. Here is what each one means and what to do next. Examples use fictional data.
Valid
The credential is registered by the issuing organization and its status is valid.
What to do: Compare the details on the page — issuer, holder, credential, date — with the document you were shown.
Revoked
The issuing organization has withdrawn the credential, for example because it was issued in error or the person has left.
What to do: Do not rely on it. Contact the issuing organization if you need more information.
Expired
The issuer set a "valid until" date on the document and that date has passed.
What to do: Ask the holder for a current document.
Not yet valid
The issuer set a "valid from" date that is still in the future.
What to do: Check again from that date, or ask the issuer.
Not found
No credential with this code or reference is published with IVQA. Credentials the issuer has not published yet are not shown either.
What to do: Check the reference printed under the QR code and try again. If it still fails, contact the issuer.
The issuer decides, IVQA shows it
Only the organization that issued a credential can change its status. IVQA never issues credentials: it shows the current status on every check.
- Every scan reads the status at that moment
- A revocation shows from the next scan
- Validity dates come from the issuer
- No account or app is needed to check
